6Newspaper Article, Unknown Newspaper; Unknown Date, early 1930s (estimate).
"T. L. Doherty, attorney, at 5103 York boulevard (specializing in real estate and escrow law), director of Los Angeles American Building & Loan Association, was born in Ireland in 1873 and came to America when a boy. Graduated from the Kent College of Law of Chicago and went to Nebraska, where he worked up a good business as legal advisor of banks, and later became president of one. He got the California fever, which was incurable, and sold out and moved to Los Angeles in 1907.

After acting as legal consultant for several banks, he accepted the postion of cashier of the El Centro National Bank in 1912, a position he held for six years. Was vice-president and director of the York Boulevard State Bank until 1929, when he resigned and became identified with the Los Angeles American Building & Loan Association, of which he is a director.

Mr. Doherty, through his long business experience and acquaintance, has developed a large clientage, who consult him on wills, escrows, loans and real estate transactions.

Mr. Doherty commenced earning wages of 25 cents per week as errand boy at the age of 12, and at the age of 13 commenced saving money to invest in an education.

Mr. Doherty strongly advises everyone to start systematic saving of part of their earnings, and first, invest it in an education; next in building and loan 6 per cent certificates, and after that in bonds, loans on real estate and in Los Angeles real estate.

Mr. Doherty has made it a rule to keep a reserve in building and loan or savings banks for emergencies, and advises his friends to start a savings account with the Los Angeles American Building & Loan Association at York boulevard and Avenue 51, and let it accumulate for emergencies or old age."
